Avian Visitors :D |
We have so many different visitors at the stables that want to make friends with the horses!! :D The avian variety are quite attracted to horses!! :D
The egrets are always welcome :)This particular one is a regular visitor to the foals. Ruby (left) and Coco (right) were quite taken by him!
We have pair of Red Wattled Lap Wing that are regularly trying to lay eggs (and sometimes actually laying eggs) in the arena!! Still confused why they would think an area with a herd of 300kg plus horses are regularly roaming would be a safe nesting area ???

Carrots Are Not Only For Rabbits |
Written on 13.05.2013
Horses are like children, they love treats whether they deserve it or not.
We should know however that everything that horses want to eat are not necessarily good for them.
Yes, horses LOVE carrots! Always better to have the carrots cut into little fingers, so that there is less likelihood of the horse choking, and of the horse eating your fingers when you give it! Sugar, yes! Horses love sugar, but it is better to give sugar lumps than powder. Protect our fingers if nothing else! Most vegetables and fruits are ok for horses, bananas, apples, watermelon ... yes yes yes!!
Horses are HERBIVORES! That means animals that are vegetarian! That means no meat of any kind. And best not to offer horses your fizzy drinks, coffee and alcoholic beverages (although you get the occasional horse that LOVES a mug of beer!).
To get right down to it, most horses are a pretty in-discriminating when they want to put something into their mouth, so it is our responsibility to make sure that they do not harm themselves by trying to eat a polythene bag, or any other item which to the horse looked like a good idea at the time!
